Collierville High School and Brentwood High School have seen each other quite often in post-season play in fall sports as of recent. And in most contests, the teams are evenly matched. This was certainly the case Friday night in the first round of the TSSAA Class 6A football playoffs.

Austin Smith had a 31-yard touchdown reception from Aidan Glover with under a minute to play in the first half. The Dragons took a 7-0 lead at halftime controlling the majority of the offensive snaps in the first twenty-four minutes. Unfortunately, it was the opposite in the second half and Collierville took a first round playoff loss at Brentwood, 17-7 on Friday night.

Brentwood tied the game in the third quarter when Adam Fontechia took a direct snap to find the end zone. Luke Steinfield would later connect on a 41-yard field goal that split the uprights for the dagger in the final few minutes of the game.

The Dragons (8-3) were unable to put further points on the board. Glover finished 10-for-18 and 100 yards in the air. Smith caught three passes for a total of 52 yards with the lone TD. Grayson Lytton was good on the extra point attempt.

Eli Myers was big for the Dragons on the defensive side. The junior linebacker had 10 tackles. Tyler Johns had a pair of interceptions.

Brentwood (8-3) will play at Bartlett next Friday, Nov. 11, in the second round. Collierville graduates another stellar senior class that has been part of a playoff program all four years. The Dragons will return a strong nucleus in 2023.

Congratulations on a great season, Dragons!
