Collierville welcomed back the 1981 Dragon Football team to campus on the special night of November 5, 2021. Forty years ago the men became the last team in Dragons history to go undefeated in the regular season before this year's undefeated 2021 season. The Dragons defeated Ridgeway, 27-14, to win the District Championship and followed that with an 18-3 win over Frayser for the Region Title. The Dragons finished 12-1 and advanced to the state semifinals. The team was led by the legendary Paul Cox and assistants John Meeks, Les Shoaf and John Humphreys who engineered a Dragon force that ranked first in the county in rushing, total offense, scoring offense, and rushing defense and second in total defense and scoring defense. The Dragons finished the season ranked #2 in the final state poll. This Dragon team, more than any before, helped set the bar for all future Dragon Football teams.
